A few more foxface questions...

Just a few questions about our foxface we've had in the tank for 1 day...
1. When does their all-yellow back return? I know they get discolored when stressed, & his color has much improved since he was delivered by the LFS yesterday, but he's still got a brown back.
2. His eyes look a bit cloudy to me. Does that mean there's a problem? We have 2 Green Chromis & their eyes are clear-black, and the Foxface's eyes are definately not like that. Almost like they have a cloudy "film" over the top of them.
3. I have green algae sheet on a clip, but he has not eaten any of it since he was put in the tank yesterday. He has eaten the frozen Marine Cuisine I put in the tank.
4. He has lymphocystis on his tail (about the size of a grain of rice), which I already know is a problem & am monitoring...just wanted to throw all the facts out there!

Just talked with the LFS. Said if his eyes still look cloudy mid-day today, they'll come back & get him out. Ugh...our first attempt at a fish other than Green Chromis...and less than 24 hours in, he's got cloudy eyes.
Does that mean there was a prob. to start with? We have a reef tank with lots of corals, mushrooms, leathers, etc, cleanup crew, & Green Chromis, & everyone is happy.

the color change is def a sign of stress.seams to be lesser amount due to the amount of color changes.until he gets used to you leering into his new home this is very common to happen as for his lymphocystis I have never had to deal with this before in my fish.did they discount you the price of this fish due to his condition?OR was this something you discovered after you got him home.I went looking for some inforamation for you on this virus it is not known to be life threatening.as for how it appears and the cloudy eyes I still reccomend melafix treatment for 7 days if you plan on keeping this fish.if not then return it to LFS for proper credits before its too late.check amonia levels in your tank also cloudy eye is a fist sign of amonia and nitrate problems.if you would like more information on the lymphocystis you can email me at lyndog13@aol.com id be glad to send you in the right direction

They are coming to pull the Foxface out in about an hour. The ammonia level is 0 and nitrites are 0. Nitrates are 5. The LFS just did a 30% water change yesterday as well (before they put the new fish in).
The fish wasn't discounted...I paid for it Saturday when I picked it out & it didn't have any probs. They moved the fish to a separate tank so that it could be delivered Monday with their tank service call. Ugh.

Well...the foxface was smart & kept hiding in the rocks when the net was put in the water...so the fish guy gave up & couldn't catch him.
He said the "cloudy" eye could be his camaflouge (sp?) because he's still got brown along his back & is in cammo-mode. Ever heard of that? Said give it a few days & see if it gets better. He said the TEENY white dots I saw on him could be air bubbles...hard to tell.
Asked if I had Kick Ick, & I don't, but I told him I'd rather not add anything to my main tank. He then asked me how long we'd been doing saltwater tanks & if this was my first. 5 months, & yes, my first. He was surprised I knew not to put anything in the main tank that wasn't NECESSARY.
Do you think I should do Kick Ick just to be safe??? I'm going to try to get him out again later...but he's pretty smart I guess

Honestly...I think all this chasing him around is probably doing more harm than good.
I am a little unclear about how long he has been in your tank, but generally I think it takes a fish a few days to a week to settle down after being moved, and often about 2-3 weeks for then to start displaying their natural behaviours. During that time, try and stress them as little as possible: feed them a lot, shorten your light cycle, don't do water changes - basically try and keep as little happening in and around the tank as possible. Just let the guy settle in.
I have a foxface, and yes when they are stressed they change colors. When it settles in it will go back to yellow, but even then, if it gets scared by movement near the tank, or is hungry etc., it will change colors again. Mine changes colors about 50 times a day. This is just what they do.
If he has a cloudy eye, it is probably a bacteriual infrection from stress, or part of the camoflage. Unless it is sick, it will probably be able to fight off anyn ionfection with food and lowered stress. Chassing the thing around the tank with a net 24 hours after you put him in there is not going to help matters. If he gets worse, then the LFS already knows he had a cloudy eye,a nd so should give you your money back. if he gets better, then there is no problem.
I have used Kick Ich in my disply once, and there were no ill effects, although you may just want to see how he is doing in a day or so. If it is ich, and if it is getting worse, you will know it, and then you can add something.
basically (although i am no disease epert) just let him be for a few days, and see what happens.

kick ich is made for the soul removal of paresites such as ich and is not 100% effective.I was told in the past that melafix is reef safe and safe for all marine habitants this is an all natural antibiotic .I have used this product many times in my Fowlr tanks and qt's never had the need for in my reef.just remove carbons and add 1 tsp per every 10 gal not only does this product help cure bacterial infections it also helps promote slime coating for fish and reduces stress.if your going to add anything this would be the product its easily removed from the tank by carbon.but it will cure the cloudy eye.

:) Thanks! I actually told the LFS guy to stop trying, because I could tell it was stressing the poor fish out. We'll see what happens in a few days..

No worries.
I would also suggest for the next week or two, adding garlic supplement to the fishes food as this helps strengthen a fish's immune system, thus helping to fight of ich and any bacterial infections.
You can pick up a tube at your LFS, an then all you do is add a little to the food before you feed it, and let the garlic soak in....then just feed as normal.
This would probably be my first move if I was concerned about a fishes health.
