Hey,
This is just a fish story. But a really good one.
As I was leaving for work this morning, I did a headcount on the hospital tank in my bedroom. I noticed that I was missing my tiger goby. It was then that I remembered reading that this species of fish are escape artists and are known for flipping out of their tanks. My heart stopped. I looked down on the floor and sure enough she was lying stock-still and dry with cat hair and dust stuck to her side - eyes wide open and staring. I was really sad.
I went to get the dust pan to sweep her into and as I did she twitched. I thought this was just the nerves, but I was not sure. I dropped her in a bucket of ice cold tap water, just to see if she would belly up. But she didnt. She swam around a little bit in the ice cold water. I wiped the hair off of her and put her back into hospital tank. She acclimated instantly like nothing happened.
I left for work with fish stink on my hand and I wondered how long she spent outside of the tank. I remembered that early this morning, about one hour before my alarm went off, I heard some weird sounds that I blamed on my old klunky fan. I thought nothing of it and sleeped through it. I then realized it was her flopping around. A miracle, I thought. She was outside the tank for 2 hours and she lived to swim with her fishy friends. She did not look back at all.
