A friendly suggestion for the Moderators to consider....

It seems like the "usuals" on this board get very tired of the same questions being asked by the newbies, and rightfully so. I'm just curious if the Moderators have considered keeping a "sticky" thread as the first thread in this forum... which contains all the generic "newbie questions" and answers to them. It would certainly clean the forum up a bit.
Just hoping for some input...

Isnt the point of a message board for posting/responding to peoples questions that they have? i stand to be corrected..

Azonic: Don't confuse my message. It's simply a suggest to help the existing members sanity more than anything. I completely agree with you however, about the idea of a message board is Q/A. :)

Makes perfect sense and I agree. Sometimes I feel my question / scenerio is just a little different and I don't want to destroy my reef creation so I ask to be sure :)

I see where your coming from completely, I'm just a total sw/reef newbie so I dont have the annoyance of being bothered by answering the same questions over and over...because ill be the one asking them :p

I was pretty sure that the purpose of the faq and the search engine was exactly that. I mean come on! FAQ stands for frequently asked questions!! People are just too lazy to spend 5 min to do a search for the topic or look in the faq. The moderators are not automatic human encylclopeadias(sp?), well actually they are, but that is beside the point. Everyone needs to take the time before posting to do a quick search. Usually that will turn up more information that would be readily available rather by people posting replies. This is the solution to a repetative board! I have been on this board for a short time and already I see the same posts day in and day out. How many posts need to be about how sufficient someones lights are for this or that? Those questions have been answer thousands of times over!
Just my 2 cents

After hearing the concept behind this board... I agree with how it's been set up :) *not that it matters much.. hehe*
And yes, the Archive section needs a spring cleaning and a JOLT drink :D ... otherwise it's a great idea and follows the concept behind the site.

I know, I am a hopeless dreamer and a naive optimist. You are not the first and probably not the last person to tell me that!! But hey, it was a good thought!! :D
I guess us Floridians just think we're in another world!!

lol I agree :D
Besides sometimes I'm just too damn impatient to wait for a ton of responses (my fault), but the Archives help a bunch :)

I'm sure a 3ft red tree sponge would brighten up your tank ;)

ok at the risk of asking a redundant question--lol
what exactly is a sticky thread and how is it different than the archives.

The Archives section shouldn't be seen as a replacement for the reef-forum by any means... just a library housing many common questions and their common answers :)
This place and it's members are WAY more entertaining than any Archive could ever be! :D

Speaking as a total newbie to saltwater tanks, and i mean TOTAL newbie, the search feature is great for someone who knows what they are looking for but for someone just starting out and looking for help getting a tank started i would have no idea what would be my first topic to search for...

Kris - lol
FOR THE RECORD ~ I am not bothered by redundant questions and I didn't mean it to sound like that!! :) Everyone starts learning at the same experience level.. and they build from there.

I must admit, if I would have come to this site looking for info to START a reef tank... I would be quite flustered without an in depth "here's how to setup a reef" guideline :) Then again that could just be my slow-ass :p
I knew a teeeeensy bit before I got here... and my tank was 1 year established... so my situation was a bit different.

Believe me, it's not just your slow ass, mine is just as slow. The little bit ive learned is from reading the 4 books ive bought, and the countless magazines and articles from the web. I've been trying to learn as much as I can since christmas when i first got interested, and now i think im finally ready to start my tank and ive still got hundreds of questions :p

Hey I like posting replies to the same ole questions lol it serves 2 purposes:
1. Gives a newb a warm welcome and teaches them.
2. Boosts my #'s hehe <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />
