swimming pools also are FULL of chlorine and other chemicals...
I'm sure they drained the pools and refilled them with saltwater from the nearby ocean before they put the dolphins into them.
What a mess.

They did drain the pools, and the hotels are very near the aquarium, someone had told me that thay actually preassure filled the pools with water from the aquarium since they are so close.... I have not been able to confirm that, but it would make a lot of sense! We wouldnt just mix up some instant ocean and go with it! What I wonder, is how the dolphins that were together survived as long as they did through the experience. I guess there really is someone above!!! Thats a BIG journey!!

Correct, a local TV station in New orleans has been broadcasting on the internet and did run a story early on. . The pools were filled with the appropriate saltwater. The dolphins were not placed in freshwater loaded with chemicals.
it is not really an aquarium where these animals were housed. More like and aqua amusement park called marineland or marinlife...memory escapes me. The dolphins were the main attraction and they did put on a good show. I recall going their numerous times as a kid.
it is located in Gulfport, MS right on the ocean front. ...no protection from storm surge.

I am so glad those sweet little things are out of the water. Hopefully the pools will be very temporary. Even though they had no hunting skills, they safely stayed together. Hopefully they will all make it safe and sound to new homes.

NOAA FISHERIES SERVICE RESCUES THE LAST FOUR TRAINED DOLPHINS WASHED INTO MISSISSIPPI SOUND AFTER HURRICANE KATRINA
Sept. 20, 2005 — The NOAA Fisheries Service and the Marine Life Aquarium of Gulfport, Miss., working with a number of other partners, rescued the last four of the eight trained bottlenose dolphins that were swept out of an aquarium tank torn apart by the storm surge of Hurricane Katrina on August 29. Normally held in captivity, the dolphins don't have the necessary skills to survive on their own. They have survived various injuries and predators and have stayed together since the storm.
click here for full story if interested. there is a picture of their aquarium......Major damage, I am surprised these dolphins made it out.
