A letter I wanted to share

Below is an e-mail letter I wrote to my boss at work, he sold me the 30g tanks I have as my seahorse tank and sump/refugium.
A friend did something so awesome, I just have to share. My friend does not want anyone to know what he did, so to respect his wishes and to make sure to keep him anonymous no name is given. You know how Angels are; they don’t want any credit, even from people who don’t know them from Adam.

Jeff,

A friend got me another Octopus sss 1000 skimmer for my seahorse tank and enough salt to last for the duration of my wait for disability to kick in. He said 6 to 8 months worth of salt mix. I’m still in happy shock. My friend said he had everything shipped to me and will get back to me on the delivery date, which should be around Wednesday or Thursday. All my worries of keeping both tanks up are gone.

I was going to break down the big reef and get rid of the fish. I saw a Hippo tang (big blue Dory fish) at the pet store for $75.00 and it was half the size of mine. Not to mention I have had my fish for years and they all get along with each other and are healthy…who knows what can happen when you start adding new critters, I wasn’t looking forward to it.

I was going to take the skimmer (Octopus sss 1000) from the 90g and put that on the Seahorse tank. It needs a skimmer and the Octopus sss 1000 runs $284.00 before shipping charges, before I got hurt my plans were to buy that same skimmer because I liked so much. I can’t afford that now that I’m not working. My mom and I got together and scrimped up $60.00 for a little Aquaticlife 115 skimmer…Spanko, one of the online Gurus at the web site I hang out on, said it would do fine. I also couldn’t afford salt for the reef, water changes are 37g each time, the SH tank (the tank I bought from you) only needs a 10g water change. My original plans were to keep the SH tank going and restart the 90g tank after I was all set and disability kicks in, now because of this one guys incredible charity I don’t have to do that.

My friend doesn’t want anyone in my social group to know about it, and did all this as a private Angel, but if I don’t tell somebody I am going to pop…LOL…so I’m telling you! It isn’t like he fed or clothed my kids; it is after all just a fish tank. But he knew I loved my tanks and right now I don’t have any cash to pour into them. Thanks to him I can keep both tanks going without worry and just buckle down and wait for everything to settle in my life. I do feel a bit guilty accepting his gift. I bet shipping alone cost a small fortune and he isn’t a rich man. He had already shipped everything before I knew about it; all I could give him was a shocked thank you.

I know you just got your own tank up and going, it’s a 30g without a sump right?….I already had ordered that little skimmer from Aquaticlife, it is designed to go in the tank itself, so you don't need a sump. I could send it back and get the $60.00 but since I would have used that much money for salt on the SH tank anyway…and considering how generous my friend was to me….. could you use this little skimmer? Free…I just want to play it forward.

Let me know, because I was planning to go to work Thursday and clear out my locker, I should have the skimmer by then…it’s already on its way.

See you then

Good folks seem to surround me; I don't deserve so much blessing in a single lifetime. I have done some nice things for folks but nothing like what folks have done for me, I can never outdo them.

Well my friend had told me all was shipped, I can only assume so I wouldn’t give him a hard time about such an elaborate gift. It turns out he can’t find the Octopus sss 1000 in stock anywhere. So I had to rescind my offer to my boss, he went freshwater and didn’t need the skimmer anyway.

I told my friend to not purchase the Octopus, that I really don’t want him to spend so much money. He had sent the salt, I thought only 1 bucket a great blessing, but he sent enough to carry me through the 7 to 8 months, that gift alone was awesome.

So I don’t get to pay it forward...YET. Nonetheless, my friend did save me from giving away my fish, thanks to him I can keep both going. I told him his nomination to Angelhood was unchanged in my eyes.

That's WONDERFUL news!! I love hearing about these little acts of kindness in our community...we have some fantastic, big-hearted people people in our clan. I've been visited by a couple as well, and I can't tell ya how grateful I am to those fantastic people who have stepped in to help in times of need. I'm especially thrilled that you get to keep your tank!!!

I understand what you mean...We hear so much of the sad awful stories in the news; it’s good to remember that there are lots of good caring folks still in the world.

I do feel a bit guilty; I must remember to not complain, because friends feel the need to fix things, and while it's very nice that they help out. I really just need a shoulder to cry on when I voice what’s going on. Once someone goes all out to fix it...what can you do? So, I must remember to not complain.

That’s why I posted what I did, he deserves some recognition. I promised to keep his name anonymous but he didn’t make me promise not to tell what he did.
