Help!! My cc starfish just ate my camelback shrimp!! I couldn't find my shrimp anywhere then I noticed an antenna sticking out from under the cc. I flipped him over and there was the shrimp stuck to the bottom of the cc. Is this normal? They were living together just fine for weeks. Also, this shrimp seems way too big for the cc to eat. Should I just let him finish him off or should I pull (what remains of) the shrimp off of the cc? Yuck!

At this point might as well let it play out. I have found some starfish will eat anything they can get cornered, but in this case it might have happened upon the shrimp who was sick or dead and decided hey a free meal. I have even had my small white short spined Urchin polish off a very large Pacific Shrimp whose death way was not determined before I found the Urchin having dinner.

chocolate chip starfish are pretators and are not safe in a reef tank. It will take out your crustaceans, some corals, and even sleeping fish.

C.C. Starfish are predators and carnivorous. When I first started out I bought one for my tank. I had the same problem. I lost a pepermint shrimp somewhere and couldn't find'em. I noticed the same thing, I found the CC and sure enough, the shrimp was in the process of getting eaten. Not a nice sight. Needless to say, I said "Goodbye" to that starfish.

IMO, the only use for a CC starfish is to put in with your harlequin shrimp. Then watch it die a slow death as they eat it one arm at a time. (a CC ate my first ever flame angel...)
