i have this sebae anemone that (for lack of a better word) has gone through hell this past week (see my build thread for info). it's foot was planted the day before yesterday, then it moved that night. yesterday it's foot was planted, then last night it detatched. this morning i saw it floating around and it found it's way into a deep cave where 1) i cant reach it, 2) theres not much or any flow, and 3) it will not get appropriate light.
does the movement of an anemone rely solely on water flow? or will this guy be able to work his was towards the light when the halides come on?

It will move on it's on. They can move just like a snail can.

so just let it do its thing, and as long as conditions are right in the tank the nem will find it's place, eh? i hope so.

It should. Mine hide from light, then come back out all the time. I wouldn't move it though, especially since it's been through so much lately.
There is still a chance that it's just over stressed and that it will die, but moving it will only stress it out more.
If water quality is good, let it do it's own thing.

Rule of thumb with an anemone is to leave it alone, unless it is disintegrating. They will find their own spot and eventually foot there until conditions warrant a change. This decision is solely the anemones to make and no matter how badly you want to change it you have no vote.

i knew there was no way to 'plant' an anemone. i just wasnt sure if it had any locomotion of their own or if they relied solely on the flow of water. there's barely any flow going into this cave, so it wont have an uphill battle coming out. i hope it comes out of there today, though. it got burned pretty good by a heater a few days ago. yesterday and this morning it looked great. it dropped all of its burned flesh and looked normal. i just dont like the idea of an anemone rotting in a cave i cant get into w/o tearing everything down.

Hey Eric. My LTA starting moving all over my tank after I added zoas. I left it alone even when I thought it was out of the light, and it would move again by itself. It took a total of 2 weeks before it finally settled on a place. I really wouldnt worry about yours, chances are it will move again, and again, and again until its happy.

I have two bubble tip anenomes, one likes the light, likes the water flow, the other hides under rocks, out of the water flow. I actually thought he was gone but saw him the other day during a cleaning. To each their own, they have their own likings. He will move to a spot that he enjoys.
