This is the new kind of canopy I plan on building. What do you think
First I will make the top piece from wood and then I have wodden poles that will hold up the top about 12" off the tank. And then make a piece of wood that is l;ike 3" from the top to block light from getting in my eyes. I will hook the VHO lighting in like that or mh lighting. It is just like other canopys but has no wood in front so I can work on the tank with out taking it off!! What do you think

Sounds good then. Alot easier to maintain, and if you run MH you won't have to worry about fans or water temperature. Post a pic when it's done I'm interested!! :)

No MH are alot easier to wire up than VHO. It's a plain three wires with MH. Hot, nuetral and ground on both sides of the ballast....keep us posted :)

OOps sorry didn't see the cost Q. Really it varies depending on ballast type (tor&coil or electronic) and bulb type, wattage and Kelvin...did I miss anything...Oh well if I did let me know. :)

Yeah, you should be able to put whatever type of lights you want without having to worry about fans or water temp. You may have to wear sunscreen around the tank with MH though...lol ;)

With out having it totaly concealed you will put a decent bit of light in the room.
I am interested to see what others think.

I am making a setup kind of like that but it is suspended from the ceiling. I will keep it about 12" above the tank. I hope it works out.

Should I conceal it all. I can do the back part if I need to. <img src="graemlins//confused2.gif" border="0" alt="[confused2]" />

If your not worried about the fish jumping out, or pollutants getting in, it's just a matter of personal preferance. Do want an easily acsessable setup? Are you worried about the amount of light in the room. If not go for it!! ;)

Congrats on the 100 posts 10k but anyways I am fine with the light in the room but just wondering if its best to cover it all up.
