Well, just when i thought evry thing was going to be ok my ray up and died on me last night,i was warned about this and already knew,i preaviuosly had a brackish water ray and had the exact same thing happen to him as well,so as far as saltwater goes is there any kind of ray i might be more sucessful at,or not.I am really fasanated with rays, and there friendlyness, but i dont want to keep removing this species from ther natural enviroment from wich they thrive in,just to have him for a short period of time just to watch him die, wich truly saddens me,mabey it was just never ment to be. A.S. :(

A very good aquarium ray and friendly as well is the Bat Ray. It is from the Eagle Ray family or Myliobatidae. I have many of them in my pools. They are very friendly and will take food out of your hand. They are generally active 22 to 24 hours out of the day. You can find them on the Pacific coast. They do get very large as adults; 6 foot across but when they are young you will find them at about 12 inches. They live in temperate waters 57F to 72F so a chiller would almost be a necessity.

risc-How do you keep bat rays in your pools? In other words, how do you keep the water right for them and how much does it cost. I'm askng cause I've always wondered if you can keep big sharks and rays in pools.

I have a small pool, about 2,000 gallons, that I keep carpet sharks and bat rays in. It is a circular pool so they can continuously swim in a circle. You can setup a 2,000 gallon pool for about $500 and then you will need the required filtration systems which moderately will cost around $2000. I have this pool enclosed inside of a storage shed basically, and since I live in Minnesota temperatures are fine for it all year round. I do not own a chilling device for any of my tanks or pools. Both my storage sheds are air conditioned and my pools are all heated.
