I am new to Salt water fish. I know Puffer Fish are bold tempured, but can you have them in a tank with mild tempured community fish, such as tangs, and other sweet, mellow fish? I want to be able to mix up the fish in my tank, and have a variety. I would like a tang, a puffer, maybe a butterfly fish... an angel fish, along with a clean up crew at the bottom. Will the puffer fish eat the other fish or eat the clean up crew? I would like to get some crabs, shrimp, clams and maybe a lobster. I have a 72 gallon tank. Would this be an ok situation?

welll i think its the oppostite because tangs are way more agrressive than a puffer. and i have 2 puffers in 2 diff community tanks. but you could add a butterfly not a full grown angle but a dwarf. and your dont have to really worry about your puffer eating other fish but he will deffinately go after the inverts in a instant but with my puiffers i have tiny fish such as 2 different hawks and 2 blennys and no problem

WOW... thank you for all the info. I will do some research... and then, some more research. I guess there is no possible way to have a puffer and crabs together... Ugh, too bad. : (

My puffer is in with a snowflake eel, a hummu trigger fish, a maculosous Angel, and, believe it or not...a crab. Now, this crab, months ago, shed his shell, and took on a dead turbo snails shell. It's hilarious to watch the crab walk around with this huge shell on its back. He staggers around as if he had one too many beers. Anyway, the puffer doesnt even care that he's there.

yea if you want you could put hermit crabs in the tank. they might get swallowed but what my puffer does is pick them upand try to chew it but he cant so he spits um back out
