a questin about a rio 400 powerhead

just picked one of these up, and it says to hook up the air line to the air inlet on top of the pump outlet. (kinda hard to follow but you know what im talking about if you have one). Anyways when i do it water just comes out of the hose, it says that doing this will cause "venturi" airation. Do i need to put a air pump to it for airation??? do i even need/want that airation in my tank??? TIA

i dont have one of these but from your desciption it sounds like the whole venturi airation thing is adding oxygen to your water which is a good thing you dont need an air pump the air line is supplying the air for you

actually you want to throw that piece of crap airline out.
the air bubbles are pointless in the SW tanks. Surface agitation provides enough oxygenation on its own. Just throw it out and use the powerhead "air bubble-less"
