A tank divided is a good thing.

For hobbyists just starting up a system I would like to make a suggestion. This is especially useful for larger tanks. Set up your tank so you have brakes in your rock work about every quarter of the way from left to right. Leave yourself a clear area where you can place a divider effectively isolating four areas of your tank. This will make your life so much easier if you have to remove a fish for any reason. Much better to remove a forth of your rock work to net a fish then take it all out .

Good advise Joe. You should name this thread Joe's Method. Oh you can't that would be infringing on some copy rights.

Not to mention one area can be a refugium for macro algae and pods.
