A Water Change Has Given Chances Of Survival

As Terry's posts state at the bottom..."A large water change can cover a multitude of sins"
After totally finding Beth, Terry & Ed to be the 'Gods' of the boards <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" /> & now turning to them for future advice...I feel that I can move on from all the unfortunate deaths :( I now see, could have possible been prevented...thanks guys/gal.
After bitching my LFS out about recommending Green-X, adding carbon & doing a 50% water change, my mated percs are showing ever so carefully, signs of improvement (somehow the mandarin didn't seem fazed?). I am of course on pins & needles with them & having more concern to the smaller, less established male perc. The female seemed more attentive today & tried to go after flakes...had to shut off lower circulation powerheads. I feel she is fighting & the male was also more active & chasing food (some degree). I am gonna let the new IO water circulate for 24 hrs & then remove 10 gals & repeat this every other day for 3 times.
How do gal/guys feel about this? Is it okay to leave the salinity at 14? Beth could you please recommend a brand of preferred specific gravity tester & tell me what would be the absolute lowest I should take during hypo & the lowest I can keep the main, once re-established & stocked again? I wanna keep 'break-outs' to a minimal...as everyone else!

I say 14 in regards to 1.014...I thought this is the most used measuring system. I am not doing the water change to lower the salinity, but to remove as much Green-X out, but I will lower it to...1.009 by tomorrow for sure. These percs & manadrin never showed signs from the parasite & I am aware that they still might have them, but my main concern at the present moment, was the TOXIC Green-X that wiped out my tang, angel & damsel.
