AAAHHH Fire Worms

Ok last night somebody told me from this site that I should look in my tank at night and look for copepods cause I thought I only had one... well last night I did that and yea I saw the copepods and then I saw fireworms or bristleworms there were four of em, two were like 4-5 inches in lenght and the other two were like 2 inches. Just wondering how are they a nuisence to the tank and should I take em out if I had the chance?

Typically you can leave them in there. They are harmless scavangers detritus eaters. Fire worms can zap you pretty good so if you do take them out and they are fire worms be careful. I am just guessing but I bet they are just bristle worms though. Extrodinarly large ones tend to freak people out and usually get scooped out.

my buddy had a problem with one that was 6+" long he didnt know it was in there or had gotten that big and things started to come up dead like his cleaner clams and slow moveing critters like that, and he was looking at his tank with the moon lights on and saw it slidding down his rock, said the thing looked like a snake in water, and it would try to grab anything that moved so when they get on the bigger side i would say to remove them guys they are great cleaners but when they get larger they arnt just eatting poop anymore........but yes the little ones dont hurt anything but your fingertips =( i know
