I was curious as to anyones experience with a couple of the current USA PC bulbs. Has anyone used the 420/460 mixed actininc bulb or the 10k/6700 daylight mixed bulb. I know with the daylight bulb it will have more of a yellow color to it, but I read that corals grow better under 6500K. I was looking for any info on how they look in the tank. More than likely I will go with the 10K daylight, but was unsure about which actinic.

I have used the 50/50 bulb in the past, which was 10k and 420. Originally I had 2 10k's and 2 460 actinics. I liked the bluer hue of the 460 more than the 420. And with regard to actinics I didnt consider them as a function of coral growth because i dont add them in when figuring light or wattage for my tank. I look at them as supplemental lighting for aesthetics only. Corals will grow better under a 65 to 6700k light, but yes will look more yellow, but I have never tried them.

Well my fixture has two 96w bulbs, so I will probably go with the 10K for one and then I am thinking about the 420/460 combo bulb for the other. I wish there was a good place where you could actually see the difference in the coloration of the 420 and the 460.

use the current 6700/10k daylight bulb. when used with the 460/420 bulb there is NO yellow, the 460nm completely eleminates it and even adds a nice blue tint. that is the BEST pc bulb combo on the planet!
