will they keep that cute color forever because i have seen pics when they are dark and ugly if so i might just trade them in for a pair of occleris.i hate ugly fish

I think they do keep that electric red all there lives. Its really all in there genes

The older they get, the darker the color, but, personally, I like that darker color. The head area tends to stay more bright, though.

indeed the older they get the darker they become ..we had a pair of gold stripe maroons where i work they were an old pair the female died not too long ago .. she was huge and instead of maroon she was black.. what a beautiful fish..
