About to make a lighting purchase, thoughts please.

- It includes a VHO fixture and a MH fixture. The VHO fixture contains an Icecap 660 Ballast, a professionally (by a licensed electrician) wire kit with end-caps, and 4 110 watt 4 foot bulbs. The bulbs are 2 white and 2 actinic, only a few months old. The MH consists of 3 250watt, Single ended bulbs. There are reflectors, wired with quick connects, that connects to individual ballast from Sunlight supply.
$550 for all the Retro kit
Looks to be in great condition. I am about to tell him "sold".
I need a 72" system. The VHO im not really keen on cause its older tech. But cant I put different bulbs in its place?

Good price. Like stated you can run t-5's with that ballast. Would need new end caps. IMO there is nothing better then VHO actinic.

Also keep your eye out for a deal on new (used) reflectors, when you have the extra money. Those will work fine for now but you can get 300% more par with good reflectors.

The VHO's are still the best actinic lamp. You could run 2 VHO actinics and 2 T5 Blue Plus lamps on that ballast. Best of both worlds.

I would say DON'T buy them.
Your obviously exited. Who wouldn't be, but the changes you would have to make to the set up sort of juices the price to average. Nothing to SWOOP on for a screaming deal.
Basically ANY bulb you buy and are not personally taking it out of its new package you should consider it dead and not consider part of purchase price.
The three MH bulbs will cost about 150-250 to replace.
The nitty gritty-Your buying three spider reflectors, three sunlight supply 250 Mh ballasts and an Icecap 660 for 550.00
thats hefty for a half finished lighting system in my book.
Search around for better reflectors, higher end MH ballasts, and an independant t5 system for actinics.
Nothing worse than buying a AWESOME new lighting system.......then 6 months later having to buy ANOTHER AWESOME new lighting system because your old one just wouldnt perform for your needs.
