Hi,
If you have the time and patience please read my Hypo Epic post in thie forum...
Re: buffer I have used Kent Marine Marine pH Buffer Designed for fish only tanks, adjusting pH to 8.3
with reasonable results. (I was actually a little lax on monitoring my pH at times but my fish did o.k.) The important thing is to test and buffer with SOMETHING! I plan to do more research next time I Q and see if the coral buffering/calcium super buffers like ESV B-Ionic or even dosing Kalk will keep my parameters be more stable especially during hyposalinity.
Currently tho the Kent stuff is the only thing I use on my FOWLR setup... (again I plan to start adding more live rock, corals and inverts only, not fish for the time being and I will Quarantine anything, even macroalgae in a used 40g breeder I am picking up today for 6 weeks prior to adding to my system)
So I will be using the fancier stuff eventually in all my systems.
AND last but not least, you must have a RELIABLE correct salinity reading (this spells REFRACTOMETER... I saw them on ---- for as low as $40). Why go thru all this trouble to possbily not have it low enough or to overdo it and loose your fish if you go too low. Your reading has to be reliable/trustworthy!!! Read my Epic Post!
Lastly since you are going thru the effort, don't rush it... the longer the better (more time for the parasite to perish)!!!
Read Terry B.'s answer to my Epic post.

BRAVO TO YOU FOR TAKING THE SMARTEST APPROACH IN THIS HOBBY!!!
