ac500 fuge

i went out and bought an ac500 for a fuge for my 10 gallon nano. i took off the black connector that connects the motor to the intake. this slowed the gph considerably. i put a divider 1/4 of the way across the chamber. on the small side, i have a heater, and some of the foam for mechanical filtration. on the other side, i put about 1 inch of live sand, and 2 small peices of live rock. i was thinking of putting some plants in there, and adding a 13 watt pc light over top.
how do i know if the flow is too much?
let me know what you guys think. i will try and post some pics a later.

If it pushes the water out of the front of the aquarium. nah jk!! I have heard to buy an aquaclear 150 impeller and it would reduce it enough. I would also think about purchasing the surface skimmer this also will reduce the flow and make your water clearer...

thanx. i think i will add the surface skimmer. one more question. i know i have been stirring up the bottom a great deal today, but my water seems to be kinda dirty. not brown, just cloudy kinda? anything i can do to make the water look crystal clear?

The only thing I run in my filter is carbon every so often, but not the kind the comes with the aquaclear I use hydrocarbon. Also, I run phosban 2 weeks on 2 weeks off...
