I have a few acans that are on some plugs or rubble and are on the sand bed. Once they "outgrow" the plug will they keep growing? Or do they need to be on a rock? I hope that made sense

no they will keep growing. you will see a babie pop out then it will grow its skeleton under that when its a full polyp.

off topic- So, do you happen to have a picture of that pink based blue polyped "sunrise" montipora you talked about?
