I got a bunch of mollies, mostly balloon mollies, but i wasnt sure if only the blacks can be acclimated into saltwater? Can any molly be acclimated given the long drip method?

Mollies are brackish so they can live in fresh and salt. So, yes balloon and black mollies can be acclimated to salt. The drip acclimation is best.

ive heard that putting them into saltwater is pretty cruel to the fish and not a good idea in general

many many years ago we used to cycle tanks with mollies, they will breed quite a lot in a salt tank also. they are a brackish water fish and can with stand very high or low salinity , it's not cruel to keep them in a salt water tank, it's only cruel if they are used for food in a saltwater tank (also not very smart either)
