Acclimating to LED's

I just ordered two Reef Breeders Photon 32's. I've read to start at 30% and increase power every week by 10%. I don't have any coral right now so I figure it doesn't matter where I start, eh? Or do I have to decrease power every time I add corals?

I'd keep them at 30% till you are almost done adding corals. Id even start frags at the bottom. They pack a punch. You could easily burn some corals.

HAHAHA. Good to see some humor on the site, lol.

Seth, how ya doin man? Glad to see you're still around! I have a magnetic frag rack that I figured I would use to slowly raise the corals to whatever height they're going to be placed in the rock work. It'll be a while before I'm 'almost done' adding corals (I think we both know there is no such thing as done-done adding corals).

Lol. Yup.
I'd start out at 30% and ramp it up 10% every week so you don't kill off your coralline algaes. I'd use a shade cloth on top of the tank for the first week or so after adding them to the tank. I would only max out at 90% there is a study that shows that LEDs loose between 1-3% intensity per year of use. I'd max at 90 and ramp it up by 2% per year you use them. How do you like them so far?
I'm still around. I'm a bit tired of answering the same questions over and over. This site is a bit behind when it comes to ideas and technology and it's not as busy as it used to be. I have a year and a half left till I graduate which is pretty awesome. I can't wait to start having some kind of full time income that will help me really get my life started and in a better spot.

I agree that this site is a little behind the times. I'm on R2R a lot now, started a build thread over there. This is where I got a lot of info starting out but like you said, I've kind of out grown most of it.

falseI agree. That's the way to start off. All the customers I have that switched over to led I have suggested they do it the same way and I haven't heard of any ill effects as of yet.
