acclimation of inverts

I'm getting some more inverts tonight... crabs, snails, cleaner shrimp. Can I acclimate them all together in the same bucket even though they may be in different tanks at the lfs?

I always have acclimated all mine together , at least that combonation anyway. There going to be in the same tank, so i would go for it.

I thought that crabs only ate snails if they wanted their shell.

yes, crabs NORMALLY only eat snails if they want the shell... although in every case, there are exceptions... If you provide extra shells for the crab, you SHOULD be ok, but that still not guaranteed... i had a crab take advantage of a turbo snail that fell upside down in the tank... he tore him to pieces, and didn't even take the shell.... little ----!

I QT all of my inverts at the same time in the same 2 1/2 gallong tank over 45 minutes. I've had most if my inverts for over 9 months. Although some of my hermit crabs have dies. I don't think they are that hardy.

I got 4 hermit crabs about 5 months ago for my 10 gallon. 1 died, looked like he was torn apart. About 2 months ago I moved, left the tank with my roommate. Went home a few weeks after I'd moved out, the motor had burned up in my pump, no telling how long before that but it was still plugged in... my roommate didn't help maintain the tank at all obviously.... anyway, the 3 were still alive even though there had been no circulation at all. Took them out, left them in a pitcher with some decorations and water from the tank, moved, set up again, and there they are still crawling around picking at this and that...
So yeah, they are very hardy Vanos... heh.

I bought some live rocks with some hermits. They were all together at this lady's house. She didn't change the water nor have any light on top of it for one whole month. After I brought them home and clean the rocks, I put everything in my tank, the hermits still crawling around eating everything. So yea, they're hardy!!! I would acclimate everything in one bucket. The Hermits are not gonna bother the snails cause you bought them and moved them. It's a brand new territory for them and they may not move for a while. But most of the time, they come right out when you put them into the tank. The snails may not move for a couple days or so. Good Luck! :happyfish

when placing shrimp snails and hermits in ur tank.. do u place them in ur tank right side up 1 by 1 or just dump them... snails wont flip right side up right? so u gotta make sure all up rightward correct?

never had one die on me, i just threw them all in.,.. they have grown since then and are lil blue electric monsters..... they got pretty big....
(i have done this at least 6-7 times w/ 20 hermits and snails each in other tanks... all lived no problem...)

Turbo snails can't flip right-side-up. I know this for a fact... had some just sit there upside down until they died... morons! Other snails can flip right-side-up. I have nassarius, and they can. Pretty cool to watch, actually!
not sure about other snails, though. I only have those two kinds...

Mine did the exact opposite, turbo flipped over but not the nassarius. I got 6 and lost one, I think when I did the top off with RO water, that killed it. He was near the top of the tank and he fell off when I did the top off and he died soon after that. Then the hermit got ahold of it. It was kinda strange that my RO water would kill the snail, no other snails died from it though, but they were near the bottom of the tank. :happyfish

they must have sold you some other snail saying it's a turbo, cause turbo's can't flip over... i think it's cause their bodies aren't long enough...

It is a well known LFS that helds Local Reef Club meeting, they've been there for many years. They called it a Black Turbo Snail and my nassarius won't flip themselves over like you say they would. I know they're nassarius snails for a fact cause I did research on them when I got them. Now the Black Turbo Snail, I have no idea, that is what they called it at the LFS. :happyfish
