Acclimation of new fishes

I have ordered several new species of Damsel fish. I have never used the drip method before but I believe I have a firm grasp on it. My question is this. I ordered 5 Cloudy Damsels, 2 spotted Damsels, 2 Yellowtail Damsels, 2 Three Spot Damsels, and 2 Three Striped Damsels.

During the acclimation do I need to have each of the different species in separate holding tanks for the drip acclimation or do I put all the fish together and acclimate them in the same tank?

You can do it either way. I do it in the bags they come in. Damsels are tough fish tho,u don't have to drop acc them if u don't want to. Drip is usually used for inverts and sensitive fish

ok thanks. I had tried to call saltwaterfish but to no avail. I also bought the 30-60 reef pack but there were no acclimation guides to that. I watched their video on acclimation and it seems like I will need to have several acclimation tanks going. I just ordered the items on Saturday. Unfortunately I do not see anywhere on the order form when they will be shipped. As this is my first time ordering from them I am not sure of the timing of shipments. Oh well, I just wanted to make sure I had enough equipment available for when the shipment does arrive.

How big is your tank? Honestly for your types of fish just float the bags and slowly add tank water too them. I'd go til you about double what's in the bag when u get them. Then net them out and put in ur tank. Inverts can be tricky but damsels u shouldn't have an issue w

I've got a 90 gallon show tank. I have had it up and running for about 8 years now. Last year I had an explosion of hair algae and it has taken me this long to get the algae gone. The downside was all my coral died during the battle.

Thanks Jay,

I received my order yesterday and everything is thriving. I had one of the Cloudy Damsels that was ill when we got it. It died during the night. It never did swim around when I put it in the tank.. Everything else is darting and diving perfectly. I was shocked on the cleaner clams. If I wouldn't have seen it I would not have believed it. The thing buried under the sand almost lightning fast. I thought the other had died but I awoke this morning and it too had disappeared and a divot in the sand was left where he had been sitting. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Welcome to the site.

That's an awful lot of fish to add at one time, so keep an eye on that ammonia level.
