Acclimation Procedure

Im not sure if this is the right section for this but can anyone explain the drip method, kinda in detail for me. This is a method for acclimating fish before you put em in your tank.

Ok the drip method goes as follows;
I have a little 2 gallon bucket (bought at ace hdw with lid 3 bucks). When I buy a fish I have the fish put in my bucket for the trip home (you will see why shortly). I find out the salinity in the tank it came from at store and keep that in mind.
When I get home I check salinity in the tank I am going to put fish in to get a idea of how far apart they are (and that tells me how long the drip is going to take).
I place the bucket lower then the tank and take a long piece of flexable airline tubing and siphon water thru it going into bucket with fish (secret here is once water is going thru knot the hose somewhere along its length so that water coming out into bucket is just a steay drip not a stream).
I find that moving the fish a few points can be done in about a half hour (say 3 to 4 points). The rule of thumb is about once you have doubled the water in the container you are using a test should show the salinity to match (A match is anything within 1 point up or down to tank salinity).
Then just net the fish or catch it in a container (my prefereed way to move a fish) and add it to tank.
This is a bit less involved then adding tank water to a bag every 5 to 15 minutes but in my case with 2 cats I have to stay around and watch so I don't have a empty bucket before I move the fish.
Hope this helps if not ask what is bothering you and we will address it.

nope thats the ticket, thanks a bunch. I was just kinda floating my bags on the top of the tank and never worried about the salinity, but thanks a million. Im going to do this from now on. Now my other question is will you do this for all inverts also, shrimp and anenomys included?

truthfully you should but I must admit I don't. My salinity and the lfs reef tanks is about the same and I have just added shrimp direct with no problems. I am cheating there and in good fish type answer to your question yes you should (if you cheat tho I don't want to know lol).
