Achilles Tang - Awesome FISH!!!!

Hello all
So on Friday, I got my first Achilles Tang. He is 2-2.5" and is a very healthy fish. I have him in the QT right now and he is doing great! I was a little nervous considering the price and gamble. So far, so good. Usually if "ich" is or was in water column or already on the fish itself, I should be able to notice it within a week or two (tangs are sooooo susceptible to ich and other pathogens)
One thing I have noticed that he has been particulary different from other fish I have first purchased and his the ability to accept food. This fish has not been shy at all. I can literally place my fingers in the tank holding a piece of red seaweed and he will glady eat out of my hand and it has only been four days.
He eats, nori, red-green seaweeds, mysis and squid like grazy. I am so happy he is eating. I have had several fish that would not eat for two+ weeks. (juv queen angel for example, but he finally began to eat and is a hog now :)
Here are some pics.
Enjoy

10g QT, Achilles feeding on seaweed hanging on algae clip.

Just a pretty good shot of the fish.

Eat, eat, eat

Congrats on the achilles. I'll be purchasing one here in about 2 months so would love to know how this works out for you. Do you have any other tangs? Just curious cause I'm going to keep mine with a hippo and purple in a 280g

The achilles is a fish I definitely would want to see in a LFS before buying. It's a huge gamble buying them online.. you never know what you'll get (considering the huge price tag).
Problem is the LFS around here don't want to stock a $200+ fish :(

I've bought every fish I've owned online for years, can't imagine ever doing it any other way. GOOD online dealers aren't going to ship and guarantee a bad fish for 15 days..

The largest online dealer never has any shipping restrictions. Everything they sell, thru all their companies has a 100% no-restriction guarantee. This includes "expert-only fish.

Congrats on getting one! Mine I've had for 3 years now, and he is my favorite tang. He eats ANYTHING including collard greens. He was sold as a "medium" size - but he showed up as a small to be sure - like 1.25".....he's finally getting those wisps on his tail and they are just awesome looking, and get better with age! Congrats again - keep us posted on him!

hey thanks
yes I have a powder blue tang that I have had over a year. a buddy of mine has an achilles and a PB tang in the same tank and they do great together so I am taking the risk of putting them together.
The powder blues and achilles are by far my fav tangs. i dont really desire another tang.

Thanks man
I am really excited about him. I order all of my fish at a small/juvenile stage because I want them to grow up in the tank. I have never wanted an adult of any kind. Luckly I found an achilles at 2.5 inches which was perfect for me. They sure are an expensive investment though

I hate to hear that. I have had my experiences with ich. I had an outbreak a long time ago and it alomost drove me out of the hobby. With a QT tank and a little patience, it is virtually impossible to contaminate a DT.
I have cured countless fish in a QT.

I know - but they are TOTALLY worth it, and hey - it should last 15 years too! What the heck - It's only money - right? lol
PS - yours is a little young guy - as the orange line at the base of his caudal fin (at his scalples) indicates he's just a kid....as he gets older - the line will grow into the more familiar teardrop shape.

If she questions the original expense of buying such a pretty fish - lets NOT ever tell her how many thousands it will cost over the next 15 -20 years keeping it alive in costs of salt, bulbs, equipment replacements, foods, higher utility bills, and how bout upgradding to that 300g tank?
