ACK!! BTA sucked into HOB filter!!

Son of a B#-$h...came home hour ago to find one of my BTA's 1/2 sucked into the HOB filter intake.

Well, got the tube part off, and got him into a QT with circulation. It looks like he is slowly coming off of it, however, I see a few tenticles in the 30G. I am in process of about a 20% water change.
My biggest fear is that as soon as I opened the canopy, there was that smell we all dread...the best i can describe it was a slight dead fish smell..

Any of you had this happen and had the BTA or other anemonie come back to health? or am I basically wasting my time and I should put him to rest and hope he didn't crash my 30G?? :notsure:
I have tested for ammonia, however, it is probably too early to tell? :help:
Thanks for your thoughts and ideas.

Dexter, I have read many a thread in the past of this occurring and I do not think I have ever heard of a single negative outcome. If you have had the anemone for awhile and it was in good health previously it should make a full recovery. Keep us posted.

Well I've heard and seen some pretty bad things with anemones and powerheads. It all depends on the trauma to the patient.
As long as you have it in QT and things are stable, and you should be running fresh carbon on the main as well as the QT, then you have done what you can do, until you can fully assess the damage.
keep me posted, provide a pic if possible.

Slowly but steadily he is comingo ut of the slotted intake. Sponges are on the list to pick up tomorrow!

You're reading my mind Thomas, fresh carbon was running in my extra filter 2 minutes after I got BTA safely moved to QT. ( so glad I had 2 HOB's running. 1 for filtration, 1 for carbon and phos absorb)
Pictures are making me feel better, he was about 50% inside the tube in the picture, now he's about 75% out!
It;s prolly going to be a long nite

Just moved him back to my tank under the lights, he has made very good progress in a short time. Mainly, I had to move him from QT, so I could get my saltwater mix going. I have another QT ready on standby if needed. Hopefully I'll have "survival" pics to post tomorrow. Thanks Bone and thomas for your help!

Had mine sucked into the pickup tube twice before I put a sponge over the end and he is still living.

Aye, was very scary. we all get so attached to these lil reef folks. Wife almost got pissed when I went straight for the tank instead of saying hello!

LOL!

It looks like it has nearly made a full recovery already!
After seeing the first pics you posted and the reply from Thomas I thought, "Oh man, maybe I mislead this guy because I do not remember seeing one get that chewed up before."

It is amazing how those critters can regenerate.
Now you can live to tell the others who have this happen because it is quite common. They decide to move or split and one gets a little too close to an uptake and "Sluuuuurp!"
Good job playing nurse!

so far so good. BTA was attached to the glass this morning and fully detached from the intake. Thanks to all for their thoughts and suggestions!

They both have their Split Scars, but looks like the patient will recover!

Suffice to say I have sponge covers for both of my HOB filter intakes!

I'll post some pics when I get home. Cleaning crew is on the way for the 100G as my amonia and trites are almost gone now. woohoo

*Edit: He seems to be doing good. Healing in corner.
