Not a great pic, but notice how these sps, besides the birdsnest, are growing onto the rock, but height-wise no growth. What's up? I am new to sps. Is this OK or is there something amiss?

I think they cover the rock/area where it is located a little bit then start sprouting branches up.

They generally grow at the base until they cover about a 1/2 inch around and then start sprouting branches.

A lot of it depends of flow. It's been my experience that in areas of my tank where my flow is highest my sps will really anchor down before growing in height and in the areas that have less flow they will grow new branches before they get a solid base.

THanks all. They are in a high flow area so that is probably it.

yeah some like to put out a stable base in high flow and some types will be very compact with short thick branches in the real high flow areas to (stags usually beak that mold)
