Acrylic tank info needed

We are considering picking up an acrylic 240 tank we found a good deal on. Can anyone offer any advice on the ups or downs of acrylics? Would also like to see some pics of the tops of some acrylics as this is the first one I have even seen, and am wondering about the top of it, it is permantly connected to the tank and has two large square holes in it for access. My concern is putting good lighting above it, will it harm the acrylic that is on top, or will the light shine through the acrylic giving the tank what it needs? any input would be appreciated.

I recently just finished setting up my new 100 gal acrylic tank after using glass for years. If your doing a reef I would suggest getting an scratch kit when u get the tank. Im not sure I understand ur question about the top, if u use fans it should be fine.
