Acrylic Thickness

I've been searching the past posts and a lot of people talk about how thick glass should be for a DIY tank, but I haven't been able to find much on acrylic. In order to build a 60x24x24 tank, how thick of acrylic should I use. Also, would I have to put a top on it with port-holes or could I leave it open with some braces. Thanks

from what i know acylic tanks are 17 times stronger than glass. i know that doesnt help much but if you want to be sure i just bought a 180gal glass tank and the glass is a 1/2 inch thick. so if you use atleast 1/2 inch thick acrylic dont worry. braces would help up top to keep it from bowing. also you could probably use less thick acrylic but i cant tell you for sure. just trying to give you a guage to whats out there.
