I vote GLASS...and pay a little extra for Starphire. Very clear.

Glass pros: pretty scratch resistant, can be cheaper depending on setup
glass cons: scratches cannot be easily buffed, weighs A LOT, not as clear as acrylic (starfire glass is clearer than regular glass, but is more expensive), not as versatile as acrylic, possibility of seam failure
acrylic pros: lightweight, clearer than glass, scratches can usually be buffed out easily usually without draining the tank, stronger than glass, versatile (can go crazy drilling CL holes etc), usually cheaper depending on setup
acrylic cons: scratches easily, if made with lower quality pieces it can yellow over time
For regular stock sizes I think glass is the way to go, but for larger custom setups I think I'd go acrylic.

Personnally, I could not stomach the look of acrylic after 2 years. It gets scratched and then algea grows in the scratch and sticks out. I do have a question for anyone looking at this thread though that might be an option for you. Can a tank be made with 4 sides acrylic and the viewing side glass?

Acrylic...Here are the facts.
An acrylic aquarium is half the weight of a glass aquarium.
Acrylic fish tanks are several times stronger than glass aquariums.
Acrylic distorts much less and is clearer than glass.
Acrylic insulates better than glass.
Acrylic aquarium seams are stronger than glass aquarium seams.
Seams in acrylic aquariums are visually superior to glass aquarium seams.
Acrylic is easily refinished. If glass scratches it can not be repaired. Even internal scratches can be repaired without removing the fish or water with acrylic.
Need I say more.

It's a great topic and it does no harm having another thread.

Nope, it does not hurt to cover it again. YOu may gain from the additional information from doing a search, however.
