What are the pro's vrs con's of the 2? I'm going to upgrade from a 20 Gal to either a 49 gal or a 79 gal bowfront tank and i'm trying to decide which type to go with. I'm leaning on Acryllic because i live in an apartment and i really don't want a 2nd bout of water on the floor.
Thanks for the help :)

acrylic is lighter and stronger than glass, but it scratches easier. like much easier. But it is more expensive. Acrylic also melts at realy high temps. not anything you would normaly hit without everything in the room dieing, but it is a saftey thing. there was a guy on here a while ago, while he was gone there was a fire in his office, melted his 90 gallon tank, and it actualy put out the fire. pretty amazing how lucky he was.
but the cons to acrylic is it costs a lot more and scratches easier. but they do have buffing pads to buff out the scratches.

Thanks for the info. I'm not certain as to what I'm going to buy for an upgrade. I guess I'll be shopping around for a while.

I would go with glass!!! I have had both and I would withought a doubt go with glass beacause of the reasons stated. Much less of a head ache!
Just my opinion! Take your time and get the right thing for you.

true with the 100 gal. That is alot of volume on the tank sides. Over time any movement with glass and it could leak. But with the acrylic it is very unlikely to leak, but scratches easy..

I believe you will be dissapointed w/ acrylic. After a while the scratches do show and that clarity you have always "seen",will no longer be there. As already stated, under 100gs,in my opinion, stay with the glass.
