I have a 90 gallon tank that has been set up for one week today. Its going to be fish only. I currently have 6 damsels in for the cycle period.
I have a wet/dry with protien skimmer. I also have 2 canister filters ( 1 mechnical, 1 chemical).
My questions is should I put carbon in the chemical filter? What will it help? For how long should I use it for? Is it necessory?

I would say you probably already have enough filtration with the wet/dry and protein skimmer. The thing I would be concerned with is you said this is the cycle period. Is the skimmer on right now? This will usually hamper your cycling time as it is removing waste from the water which is needed in order to get the cycle going.
