Adding Iodine

I have been adding Reef Solutions to my 75 gal reef aquarium every other day. I would like to see my mushrooms grow and spread and haven't been getting great results with Reef Solutions. Should I add iodine in addition to Reef Solutions? What could I expect from adding iodine to the tank. Any worries or concerns from doing this?

Adding iodine can cause serious problems if not controlled by test kit. Even then it's still not proved that iodine may accelerate coral grows. Iodine can be very toxic if overdosed. I wouldn't suggest you adding extra iodine just for coral grows. Try to find the best place for your coral (lights, flow), keep good water conditions and that's probably it, imo.

Of course testing is important, but so is iodine. Especially if you have shrimp or any other molting inhabitants, and even more so if you do not do regular water changes.Iodine is consumed and needs to be there.

goldrush,
i agree with you 100%. The question here was if there will be increased growth rate due to adding extra iodine. Sure inverts need iodine. Doing regular water changes will replenish the iodine.

i added Kent Tech-I the other day and its strange since it says you don't have to test for iodine since it will be undetectable and i guess its a progressive chemical or something.

I always underdosed the recommended amount for iodine. You DONT want to over do it.

ANd it really sounds like your over doing it, I only add it once a week. I would defenitly do some tests.
