Curing the sand, particularly important if its small fine stuff like oolitic, I find very important. If its a new tank being set up, with live rock, possibly not so necessary to cure it.
Why do you want to add more sand? If you have sand, and flourishing live rock, its likely your sand technically is "live" with bacteria.. possibly some critters. In general, thats all the pre-packaged live sand is.
