adding more LS

I am getting a 75 gal tank from my friend, but they told me to get more leve sand, not the fine stuff but not as coarse as and chunky as crushed coral. If its 2.99 lb its going to be very expensive and I'm not going to be able to get alot. Since the stuff in the tank is live, can i buy some sort of dry substrate to add to the sand so I can have more bedding without it costing to much?

You can do it but you don't want to smother your critters in the existing sand bed. I'd add aragonite personally. Caribsea makes it if you can't find southdown sand. Add the sand a little at a time. You can use a piece of pvc pipe and a milk jug with the bottom cut out as a funnel. Put just a little bit of rinsed sand in at a time over a long period of time so not to kill the critters in there now. The pvc pipe lets you place the sand where you want it and minimizes water clouding.
