Adding More Rock....

Ok, I'm thinking of adding more dry rock to my tank. Is there a process I have to go through before putting it into the tank?

FWIW,
A few months ago, I added a very large piece of base rock to my tank. I had to suffer a new bout of diatoms for a while, just be advised....
Perhaps I should have placed it in the (fishless) QT for a while??
It was also butt-ugly against the existing rock until it colored up a bit.

I actually added two more decent size rocks in the tank last night. Yep, it is ugly right now but should color up fast. My corraline takes over quickly.

You can add directly to the tank.
I have a QT that has never seen meds so I throw rock in there first and let it "simmer" for a little, then throw it in the DT

I did some a week ago - I soaked it in regular water for over a week, then when I was doing a water changed I let the 25 pounds or dry rock soak in the waste water for an 1.5 hours, everything seems fine today.

I think limestone based rock is fine, but interested to see what others say.
As for Florida rock, at lot of people complain about more hitchhikers in FL and Carribean live rock, I've never had an issue with either, although the majority of my rock is Tonga.

I also think limestone is fine. The only thing I can recall on them is how they can raise the PH in a tank. However, if you are establishing a tank and cycling then it should all stabalize before it's time to add a lot of critters. Once a tank has been up for awhile and then you want to add some and are concerend about the ph increase, I would just add a piece or two here and there and monitor. That is what I do.

The rock is dry so I don't think there would be hitchhikers
I just want to add more to my tank so I can add more corals

That's really the only reason I add rock now. Just so I can make more areas for new corals. Basically all my rock has been "live" for months so I don't feel bad when I add a couple of rocks for new coral. I just wouldn't over do it.
