adding more sand

is there anyway to add more sand with out having to take everything out of the tank??

Yep. PVC pipe and pour slowly or a large ziploc bag with the corner cut.

And don't add too much at once.

You can also use an appropriate size Tupper wear container put your sand in add some tank water wait until the sand settles with the cover sealed sink the Tupper wear into you tank remove the cover and gently tip over
