Adding new clowns after female carpet dives.

I've had a pair of clowns (both purchased here on SWF) for about 2 months. Monday I came in and noticed that the largest of the pair jumped ship over the weekend and ended up as a crispy critter on the carpet.
It was pretty sad having to watch the remaining clown all week. He continually stayed at the top of the tank, right at the surface looking for his mate.
So now I plan on heading over to the LFS to replace the lost clown, I'de like to pick up 3... I've always been told that you should only have 1 pair in a tank. If they are the same type can they live together in the same tank harmoniously?
The tank is a 55gal and the clowns are tank raised Perculas (only other livestock in the tank is several varieties of coral, a few LTAs, sailfin blenny, royal gramma and misc shrimp).
thanks

I have had a clarki clown for about 10 months now... he's been doing great.. I just added a mated pair of black perculas and they all get along fine... Clarki is smaller than the two new ones.. and the new male does occasionally scoot clarki away a bit... but not at all aggressive and they have all shared the same anemone from time to time....

I thought about adding 1 Percula and 2 maroons... but I've read enough on the boards here to see that would be a big NoNo :)

I would say go ahead. Sometimes they are aggressive if there spot in the tank gets invaded or they get possesive of an anemones. Certain clowns are also more aggressive than others. Maroons, and my cinnamons are. My Percs and saddles are fine together w/ an anemone
