adding sand

[40 galons]

i really want to get the cc out of my tank, but the thought crossed my mind to get some live sand off this site. put a screen over the cc already in my tank and put about an inch of sand over that? i already have 40lbs of cc+live arragonite mix in a 40 gallon tank. would it be a wise thing to do or just go with plan b, im hooking up a 30 gallon refugium and im pondering on the idea of slowly taking the cc out of the 40 into the 30 and just putting regular sand in the 40 ..any thoughts on this idea? thanks

My only thoughts are do it all at once. if you try to remove a little of the cc at a time, you will just create ammonia spikes due to the trapped detrius in the cc. There are several threads on here on changing all the substrate at once. I did one myself with my 55. Good luck and hope that helps.

I would just leave the cc and forget the sand.
