adding SFE

My tank has been cycled for 5 months. 12 days ago I added my first fish, Niger and a spotted puffer, each are small 1.5 inches. I am thinking about adding a SFE to the tank. It is also a small. Is it okay to add the SFE this fast, or should I wait longer. Also, how do you cover all the gaps in the hood to make sure they don't escape? I have a small hole around my heater, fluval filter and a bio-wheel filter.
Thanks

go to home depot or lowes and get some fiberglass screen to cover your gaps
I totally agree. My buddy bought a good size SFE for about $75, and the next morning, he realized that the SFE had gone carpet surfing. A terrible way to die. Take all necessary precautions. Have you tried getting one of those black plastic add-ons for your glass tops? You can cut notches into the plastic to fit snug around your stuff that coming into the tank.
About adding the SFE...... 12 days should be sufficient time for the tank to go through it's "mini cycle" from the previous fish. Double check your chemicals before buying the eel, it's safer that way. How big is the SFE by the way? If he's good enough size, the Niger might become dinner!

Yes, definitely close up ALL openings. Eels are very tricky, they find themselves into the strangest places. Cover ALL holes. They like to stick their heads out, check things out. They dont know that there isnt water otu there. lol. Also, get him some PVC tubing while yer at the depot, it'll make him feel comfotable. Get a small one to start, or else it can and will eat yer other fish, so be careful. To plug up the opening, you could use something like fine netting. Fine a way to get it on there secuely. It would ge cheaper than plexy glass, but it'll keep him from getting out, unless he REALLY goes at it. Other than that, I got nuthing else for ya.
