It would have been a lot better had you put the water in first, so you could easily stir the salt into the water while it is in the tank.
You now have two options. You can still stir it while it is in your tank, but the water is going to get incredibly cloudy. I recommend mixing the water and salt in a large plastic container. Then put a large plate inside the tank and carefully pour the mixed saltwater onto the plate so that you disturb the sand as little as possible.

When you first set up your tank it doesn't matter how you do it. BUT you do need to keep track of how many gallons you actually put in your tank. Then you can add a half cup per gallon of water rounding up for whatever fractions you end up with. In the future you will need to mix the water before adding it into the tank.

Heh, I just told you how. :notsure:
Mix the salt and water in a large plastic container, put a plate on the sandbed, and slowly pour the mixture onto the plate. :)

yeah, pouring in freshwater on your sand will kill a lot of the marine bacteria and stuff in the LS, making it dead sand... that's why mudplayerx said it's easier without the sand. plus it just gets cloudy and nasty if you have to stir up the water to mix the salt if there's alreasdy sand in there.
