Addition to Puffer & Tusk

One of my favorites now a days is a Diana's Hogfish, beautiful Magenta color, hardy and not expensive (what more could one ask for). Have one with my Pork pair and it has done just perfect since it was added and the Porks pay it no mind even when it gets between them at dinner time.

90 gal with a bunch of LR and a macro algae tank.... I really don't know what I want to add... The emperor is cool but I don't think my tank has been up long enough... not quite 3 months... gotta try to get some pics of the fish pufferlover is talking about....

Most sites that have them for sale will have a picture of them. It is a very cool fish and altho a member of the Wrasse species they are a bit bigger and bolder with larger fish. There are a few that are around a lot and they are
Dianas
Lyretail
Spanish
Cuban
Coral
I have posted before of my fondness for these fish since getting the 4 I have now (Spanish juv, Diana's adult, Coral Adult, Coral Juv. Note; all in different tanks).
Lyretail most mellow, Cuban deep water harder to find good one and they are expensive compared to others 50-60 bucks, Spanish and Coral pretty good tankmates for othe fish. I do have Spanish juv in with Stars & Stripes Puffer juv. no problem with those two. If you can't find info get hold of me and I'll tell you where pictures can be found.

I found some pics on another site... pretty cool.... Would a porcupine puffer be ok with the striped dogface?

NO- To mix a Pork and Dog is looking for trouble if not right away surely down the road. This has come up quite a bit lately and I always say do not do it. The Pork is much milder then a Dogface and will in the end be the looser

Pretty much one to a tank if you don't want problems and fighting. Sorry I know how you feel. I have mentioned before I have 5 Porks and Dogs in 4 different tanks. I could have 3 less tanks if I was not a pufferlover (get it pufferlover, thats me, I crack myself up sometimes lol). Anyway pick out something that will compliment the Puffer and you will have a great tank.

It's funny because when I first got into this I didn't like puffers... but eventually I started seeing more and more of them and I really think they are cool now... I had a yellow tang in with them but he was getting territorial so I got rid of him... I'm afraid to go with a purple for the same reason... maybe either the hog or an emperor... decisions, decisions...

Frankly I would go with the Hog. I tried a Emperor first when I decided to add 2 fish to the Pork pair tank and it got sick and caused my first illness in years with the Porks, plus it cost a few bucks and died within days anyway. The Hog went in no problem and is a delight to watch as it is moving all the time and does not take any nonsense from the Porks altho they are much larger. It has been healthy as have all the Hogs I bought during my Hogfish frenzy (I do get carried away sometimes). The Diana's was my choice for the Porks since it is probably the most aggressive of the Hogfish (but not real mean even then). I did find once added the Hog will not allow another fish in the tank. Tried to move a large Oriental Wrasse from a smaller tank and the Hog kept diving at it till I moved it out again. Good side to that is now I have no desire to buy any other fish for that tank (another benefit of the Hog you see- saves me money in the end lol).
