Hi, I have a 38 gallon tank with 20 blue leg hermits, and 10 large turbo snails. I'm looking for something to help clean the sand bed, and also something to help take care of algae? What do ya'll suggest?
Also, what does the emerald hermit crab do? What's the difference between that and blue-leg and red-leg hermits?

i have 2 emeralds; they are great, lots of character. they mainly eat algae and POOP. i guess you could call them scavengers. mine are eating soooo much plant material that their color went from a light green color, to a dark jade green in about a month. they are my favorite invert in my tank :D
as far as the hermits, i think the only real difference is how aggressive they are. i used to have 2 blue legs, but they killed each other... they tried to eat my snail as well.

fighting conch is good. 1 per 30 gal is what i heard. you might also try nassarius snails.

I would get a Fighting Conch because the Queen Conchs get way too big. The Nassarius Snails are good too because they spend a lot of time in your substrate.

As a matter of fact it was stickied for quite a while when Kip first wrote it.
I would vote for conch and a number of nassarius snails as well.
