Well tomorrow night im going to the LFS in okc, and was wondering what kind of additives I will need for some coralline algae growth and to keep a couple softies.
Thanks in advance!
I have been adding Reef Vital DNA to my tank and I can't believe how big my shrooms are and how much color my LR is getting. I also use the B-Ionic additives for CA and Alk. But I was getting very little coloration on my newer rock until I started the Reef Vital DNA by Mark Weiss. Seems to be great stuff!
I may also add that it is a little pricey at $28 for a 16oz bottle, but you only need 1 teaspoon per 100gal, so it will last in a 29 gal for a while. Also, it needs to be refrigerated after use.
Good Luck,
Frank
I did a little research on it and most people say that stuff is worthless. But I don't know. It may work. Do you or any one know of any other good products out there??
For what its worth I'd suggest a simple approach. Maintain a stable system and let it mature. I add Seachem products along with Kalkwasser only to establish & maintain levels of calcium & alkalinity...other than that I keep temp/specific gravity/ph stable and do sort of monthly 10% water changes for trace element replenishment. Personally I avoid adding anything that I can not test for...but there are many ways to establish & maintain a reef...I just prefer to keep things as simple and stable as possible. With stable water and decent lighting you can carefully select corals ... but personally I'd avoid additives that are designed to makes things better/easier/faster...but thats just me.
If you're going to OKC to shop at the LFS, you have to go to The Reef Shop. I was there about 2 weeks ago and LOVED IT! They have live rock for like 4.00 a lbs. It's really nice looking. The shop is just really cool. I was in OKC Friday & Saturday. I was planning on going back to the store on Sunday but then the snow came and my 22 yr old daughter called me and told me that she thought my starfish was dead. So I came on home to check things out and sure enough it was dead. But I plan on going back to that shop. Maybe you've been there.
Yeah i went to the reef shop and looked last weekend. I got 8 pounds of rock from there. Really nice place but sorta high. I personally like the one in Norman better. But The reef shop has tons of corals and fish. But i paid like 7.99 a pound for my rock. It was that other stuff besides fiji it's really cool looking.
