Advice about Red Slime Algae

i am not a big fan of adding anything to a tank for normal tank problems especially algea.algea is normal in new tanks and caused by lack of maintanence on mature ones.a quick fix isnt the way to go.red algea is probably the hardest to get rid of.personally i suck it up with water changes but it will still usually take a few months to get rid of it naturally.
add a phosphate reactor, use less light, increase flow all things that will help rid you of the slime.over the years i have read about things to put in the tank and as far as i am concerned they are either snake oil of will harn other things in the tank.you are trying to kill off a living thing dont you think the stuff to kill it will harm other living things in the tank?

I've had my Red Sea Max 250 for about 3 1/2 months. I do water changes every week and have never missed one. I try to suck it up every week during the changes but it comes back within a day or so. Don't know alot about a phosphate reactor. I bought the Max because everything was built into the tank.
Thanks for the input.

That chemi clean worked well for me too in my biocube that I had a year or so ago. And just a note

red slime algae- its not an algae its a bacteria hence its name cyanobacteria. The chemiclean will turn your water yellow a little bit but it clears up and will kill off your cyano. You have to find out where your nutrients that its thriving off of are coming from- some people say to cut the lighting cycle for a few days and syphon out the dead cyano- but it will just come right back once you bump up your lighting again. Try one thing at a time until you find the source of the problem, Cut back feeding, increase flow. Once you find what the problem was keep up the new rituals that you did to get rid of it and youll have it whooped...Good luck with it.

I used it a long time ago and it worked really well. Your skimmer goes kind of crazy for a few weeks, but as long as you follow the directions it seems to work good.

Anyone use the product RedSlime Control by Blue Vet. Results???
no
And I don't recommend any chemicals to control red slime.
IMHO the single best fastest and most effective way to control red slime is to kill the lights for a few days.

I agree try to manage it first w/o use of chemicals first.
Routine maintenance is extremely important to reduce excess nutrients and organic debris.Use a siphon to clean a portion of your substrate regularly, perform regular water changes and routinely replace filter media.
Be sure your aquarium has good water movement, and use r/o di water.
Maintain proper marine pH between 8.1 and 8.4. A high pH helps discourage the growth. And monitor phos levels.
