after LR is dead can u use it still??

my friend gave up on his tank and left his rock outside in his backyard.its been like 6 months now.can i use this rock still in my tank???

Normally I would say yes, but I would be concerned if any pestisides, oils, fertilizers were ever used on it, or near it.

I agree with thomas... if it was kept covered in a bucket I would say yes bu who knows what got on it

I'd be concerned about it being contaminated also...but if you are confident that its safe then at the very least I'd clean it real well and let it cure by itself for a while before even considering using it in a established system.Even if its been out of water for a extended period it will still be able to function as a good means of filtration. Same as most types of base rock...in time it will be LR.:thinking:
