Aftermarket camera batteries

I would like to purchase an extra bettery for my new digicam but after browsing the mfg's site, they are $70
Then . . . I search on google and am seeing "equivalent" batteries for like 13-14 bucks, and even cheaper on ----.
Are these "cheap-o" batteries worth it? Will they cause any problems? Void warranty? etc. etc.
Any experiences out there with them?

I don't see any reason why they would not be OK. I used after market batteries on my camcorder for sometime now with no problem. My digi uses standard NI-MH AA batteries. Just mak sure it is a brand you are familiar with. No unbranded stuff. Or amke sure if it is a company that specializes in replacement batteries.. Double check your owners manual about warranty. Not sure with cameras but the cell phone companies will void warranty if you do not use thier accesories.

I say go for it too. And as far as the warranty goes, (at the risk of sounding criminal :nervous: ) how the heck are they going to know....this is just a back up. I have had one on my cell phone for about 1 1/2 years without problem. They just want you by the short hairs!
If and when the time comes for my Cannon G3, I will probably go the same route. They are marked up just like medication.
Its all the advertising your paying for.

as long as they're lithium ion, what does your's take? AA, AAA, or one of those weirdo sizes?
Did you ever check out Ritz/Wolfe I think mine was $30 and they work like a charm....so far.

I think I would try Radio Shack. If they are no good, take em back. You might get burned on ----.

Scoob, I could not agree with you more. Why take the chance. The aftermarket batteries I have used have been made by Energizer and Duracell. I feel pretty safe with the brand names.

I would still use Energizer/Duracell too. It would still be considered a battery that Cannon doesn't use. (we think.. ) I would not go to bottom of barrel cheap, but one that is comaprable.

Unfortunately my camera has a proprietary battery, the NB-2L. Funny looking thing really.
I am going to do some web searching and see what I come up with.

007, go to the store and pic up a photography magazine. You will find tons of adds for camera stores around the country. You can get some unreal deals from these stores. With cameras you have to be carefull it is not a gray market peice but with a battery it is pretty straight forward. Also the Energizer battery I have is a specific battery for a Sony camcorder, check they make a lot of replacement batteries for cameras to laptops.

Careful with the aftermarket ones, just picked up 2 off ----, and they got here and dont work. They fit and look the same, but just plain dont work.
