Are you quarantining your fish?
Quarantine is to watch for and treat disease but also to make sure they are eating well before they are added to the tank.
No, and only because I've had a few friends who never had one and had great success without it so I never really considered getting one

Not quarantining your fish in my opinion is playing with fire. Eventually you will get burned. The wholesalers have been having a lot of issues with disease so the fish come in to the stores exposed to these and often succumb to them. I just takes one sick fish to whipe out a whole tank. Quarantine can prevent diseases from getting into your tank. It is much easier to quarantine each fish before you add them then to your display than to remove and treat all the fish and let the tank sit with out fish for 6-11 weeks, depending on the disease, while it dies out.
