Agrivating overflow box

Every 4-5 days my overflow box (standard type not CPR) will slow down draining into my refugium probably due to air building up in the syphon tube. The water in the refugium then gets low and builds up in the tank. I have to take out a rubber airline hose and suck out the excess air in the tube (re-start the syphon) to lower the water level again. Does anyone have any solution to this? I am thinking of drilling a hole in the top curve of the syphon tube, silconing a airline tube to it and run the other end to a power head. This would continuously suck any excess air build up. Any sugestions would be REALLY helpful, Thanks.

I had the same problem. My problem was a low flow rate. Once I increased my return pump flow the problem went away. Might be worth a try.

It was on my old 75. I had a mag9 on it. I used a ball valve to slow the flow. I had it closed because it was too much current in one area. I opened it up, moved the output a little and presto! cured!

Thanks for taking the time. I added a second PH and it increased the level of the water in the overflow (aquarium side), so I think that will keep the air out of the syphon. However, it is kind of a jerry rig set up, so if it does work I will be buying a new pump so your info is Really helpful. Thanks.
